I won’t do too many personal posts on this blog because they may very well end up being “pity me” posts. That is the last thing another sufferer of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome wants to hear – someone whining about their aches and pains when they are suffering the same or worse.
Thankfully, this post is a positive one! Approximately 60 days ago (give or take a few days), my husband and I started to take Omega-3 Fish Oil 1000mg (300mg Omega-3) softgels. The main reason was the potential in heart health. For unknown reasons, my heart would speed up like a rabbit’s heart on speed. It frequently did it right after I climbed into bed as was about to drift off. While it wasn’t painful, it was uncomfy and a little scary. I know I’m about 100 lbs overweight (long story), but still one’s heart shouldn’t go from zero to sixty when you’re lying perfectly still!
So, I started taking the Omega-3. The dosage suggested 1 softgel 3 times a day. Since I wasn’t sure how I would react to this supplement, I decided to do 2 times a day. I was diligent in taking the capsules for a good 3-4 weeks. Then I would forget the dinner time (2nd) dosage frequently. Now, I just take it at lunch with my multivitamin. As I read more about fish oil, I found it can also potentially help with joint health – a plus with me since I have arthritis in my right fingers (using a computer mouse all day and night). Also, it’s been known to improve skin health too. Every woman could use a little help with that! *grins*
However, yesterday, for whatever reason, I got to thinking about my rapid heartbeat problem … and how I haven’t had an episode of such in quite a long time – easily as long as I’ve been taking the fish oil. Things that make you go “Hmmmmmm”. Did the Omega-3 fish oil, even at one softgel capsule a day, ‘cure’ my rapid heartbeat episodes? *shrugs* Who knows. But I do find it highly coincidental that since taking the supplement, I haven’t had another episode.
Naturally, talk to your doctor before taking on any new vitamins or supplements, just in case they do not react well with any prescribed or OTC medicines you are currently taking. But if you have a history of any heart-related aliments, run the idea of taking Omega-3 fish oil pass your doctor and see what she/he says about it. And, in case you are asking yourself the question, no … I did not talk to my doctor for two reasons. One, I am not taking any prescribed meds and the only OTC meds I take are the occasional ibuprofen or tylenol for when my Fibromyalgia aches get to be too much. And two, I do not have health insurance and can not afford doctor visits. It stinks, but it’s my reality.
